Join us as we kick off the official Art Bar series at Casual Animal! Local artist instructors lead attendees through creative mediums allowing for skill development, but also free expression by the individual.
Consider Art Bar a pop-in craft night or artist tutorial experience.
Guests may stay the whole 4-hours, or muse for a bit before leaving with their creations after only a few minutes. The point is to offer a welcoming space for people looking to escape through creativity, the development of new skills, and finding community. Each class or project may incur a fee to ensure the artist instructors are reimbursed for materials and their expertise and time.
SEPTEMBER 30 - COIL AND CREATE
Learn the techniques of coiled basketry. Practice with a coiled coaster and take the skills home for more basket fun! Instructor: Katie Amos
Learn the art of coiled basketry in this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop. Using cord as your base, you’ll shape and build a small basket while learning a technique that can be adapted at home with natural materials like pine needles. You’ll wrap and secure your coils with colorful wire and fabric, giving your piece both structure and personality.
Each basket will be unique, with size and shape varying slightly, though most will be around 4” x 2”. This class is a relaxing, process-focused experience that blends creativity with simple, satisfying technique. You’ll leave with a finished basket and the skills to continue exploring coiling on your own.
COST PER PROJECT $8
All class costs are added to the participant’s bar tab (no tax) and paid out in full to the artist instructor. Costs cover materials and instruction provided by the artist.

Katie is a multidisciplinary artist and educator, whose work is rooted primarily in painting but extends across a wide range of creative practices. From fiber arts and wood burning to culinary exploration, Katie embraces art in all its forms, believing that creativity is not limited to any single medium. With over 10 years of experience teaching children’s art classes, Katie is passionate about making art accessible and empowering for everyone. Their teaching approach is grounded in the Teaching for Artistic Behavior (T.A.B.) philosophy, which encourages individual expression, choice, and creative confidence. Whether offering structure for beginners or freedom for more comfortable artists, Katie strives to create an inclusive, supportive environment where participants feel inspired to explore and create at their own pace.
