Art Bar - PAINT, PAINT, PASS

  • Casual Animal Brewing 1725 McGee Street Kansas City, MO, 64108 United States (map)

Join us as we kick off the official Art Bar series at Casual Animal! Local artist instructors lead attendees through creative mediums allowing for skill development, but also free expression by the individual.

Consider Art Bar a pop-in craft night or artist tutorial experience.

Guests may stay the whole 4-hours, or muse for a bit before leaving with their creations after only a few minutes. The point is to offer a welcoming space for people looking to escape through creativity, the development of new skills, and finding community. Each class or project may incur a fee to ensure the artist instructors are reimbursed for materials and their expertise and time.

SEPTEMBER 9 - PAINT, PAINT, PASS

Paint and Pass - community paintings. Instructor: Jess Rodenburg

During this painting experience, everyone at Art Bar will be collaborating on your painting. You will start with a blank canvas and paint for a set time, and then we pass our paintings on. At each turn, you will be taking the original artist's vision into consideration (we will be doing a fun warm-up activity for this) and thoughtfully adding to each painting. Once your painting gets back to you, you get to go home with a work of art made by you and for you!

Jess will offer light guidance and instruction to kick off each round, but painting time is for each participant to add their own styles, techniques, and ideas to the painting.

Once your painting gets back to you, you'll get to see your collaborative work or art and how all the individual details feel intentional and how everyone's personal styles weave together.

Each participant will take home their own finished canvas ready to hang.

We will do a couple of fun warm-up activities to get into our creative flow, we will do a quick instruction with some painting techniques, tips, and ideas, and then we dive into painting (and a pint!). We will have 2 different sessions during ArtBar, join solo or bring friends!

Session 1: 5pm-7pm

Session 2: 7pm-9pm

COST PER PERSON $10

All class costs are added to the participant’s bar tab (no tax) and paid out in full to the artist instructor. Costs cover materials and instruction provided by the artist.

Artist Instructor Bio:

In 1991 I told my Kindergarten teacher that when I grew up I wanted to be an artist. And here we are. I am a lifelong artist with experience in a lengthy list of mediums, from welding to watercolor.

I am from a family of creatives, and my parents always supported my projects and gave me access to tools, materials, and knowledge in both their areas and crafts. I have held a variety of professional creative roles and have gotten to work with entrepreneurs and businesses in a spectrum of different industries. I believe that community is marketing. And bringing people together through creative experiences has been my catalyst to build community.

I am from Colorado and spent my college years in the Fort Collins, CO area. I spent a lot of time hanging out in breweries. I liked hanging out in breweries so much that I decided to spend 3.5 months touring breweries across Europe. I feel like craft beer culture fully embraces and thrives in creativity and community, and is something that has always intrigued me (and IPAs…). I love the architecture, ambience, art, history, and flavors.

Now you can find me painting commercial and residential murals around the KC area. I partner with a local non-profit to host free youth art workshops for KC area kids. I have an adult art night and family-friendly workshops. And I am always ready to connect for hosting different art activities, private pARTies, or help create custom projects and events.

I love the perfect blend of it all and am looking forward to hosting creative experiences with everyone at Art Bar. The projects I’ll be sharing are focused on the process and not perfection. I believe that everyone is creative and deserves to have a space and time to get to practice and flex that. Projects are designed to help you move through the project and express yourself with your own styles and inspirations, no matter your skill level. You’ll get to connect with your inner artist and leave with a fun new piece of original art.
